A Financial Innovation to Improve Investments in Social Drivers of Health

On March 21, 2023 Pinar Karaca-Mandic, Professor at Business Advancement Center for Health (BACH) at University of Minnesota. Presented how the proposed of a new financial instrument would generate greater returns on the investments Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) make in social drivers of health such as housing and food insecurity. The project, led by Pinar Karaca-Mandic and Rahul Koranne, CEO of the Minnesota Hospital Association, was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Systems for Action program and was published on March 6 in Health Affairs.
